Now that Google is Out, China is Building its own Search Engine

China’s huge population can put it on the top on quite some “world’s most” lists. Following that trend, China has the largest number of mobile subscribers and Internet users.

However, the Chinese Government is not very keen on boasting about these figures. Instead, it sees a reason to regulate this population. China is planning to develop a government controlled search engine in collaboration with many organizations. This would possibly allow the Chinese Government to serve completely autonomous content in search results.

Baidu is the prevalent search engine in China. Baidu rose to complete rule in China after the government booted out Google. However, now China’s official news media Xinhua and China Mobile, the largest mobile network in China joined hands to create “Search Engine New Media International Communications Company”, the new face of web search in China.

If this goes on, China can really succeed in pissing off its citizens who happen to be avid Internet users. In such a situation, they will have to be content with the fact that there is another country called North Korea, which is at a worse state when it comes to the Internet!

The actions against Google were simply seeds sown to the tree that can be seen as growing now. Now, we need to see how well Baidu holds up against this recent development

However, there is a workaround which will allow you to skip an advertisement or commercial on YouTube by refreshing the page. To skip ads on YouTube, just refresh the video page you are on and the video will automatically start playing, this will save you a good 20-25 seconds on a faster connection.
The good news is that YouTube will be introducing a feature where they will allow users to skip ads using a button in near future. Till then the F5 button is your friend.

Did Vinay Deolalikar Just Solved One of Computer Science’s Most Complex Problems?

 
Vinay Deolalikar is the principal research scientist over at HP Labs and has recently claimed to have solved one of the most complex problems of Computer Science. The problem is actually so complex that Clay Mathematics Institute had announced a $1 Million prize award for whoever solves the problem. Whether Vinay would get the money or not will be decided once the institute can verify Vinay’s solution.
The problem that Vinay has tried to solve is called the P vs NP problem and deals with the existence of questions that can be answered quickly but require an impossibly long amount of time to be solved by any direct procedure. As a result of his research, Vinay claims he has found proof that P is not equal to NP, meaning that an NP (nondeterministic polynomial time) problem can only be solved by brute force. Many scientists from around the world have expressed appreciation for Vinay’s effort but no body has started celebrating just yet. They all explained that Vinay’s proof and logic would have to be tested extensively before it can be claimed accurate.

Vinay has a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT and a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from University of Southern California. Vinay routinely gives lectures on Algebraic Geometry and Number Theory at Stanford University.

Google To Acquire Jambool for $70 Million

Google

is on an acquisition spree right now. After the official announcement that it had acquired Slide, there has been speculation that it has now acquired Jambool, a social gaming monetization startup for about $70 million.
Jambool runs Social Gold, a virtual goods monetization platform

which enables developers to manage their own virtual currency in their games. It also allows developers to get detailed analytics about your in-game virtual economies. Social Gold is used by many online games; but it was hit hard by the launch of Facebook Credits, the official virtual currency of Facebook.
Jambool was founded by Vikas Gupta and Reza Hussein, two Indian developers who were previously working at Amazon.
Google is desperate to crack the social networking market and social gaming is probably the best way to do it. It has reportedly set its sights on Facebook and is planning to launch a Facebook competitor codenamed “Google Me”.

Enable Google Multi Sign-in Feature

Google has been recently testing multiple account sign-in, which would allow users to sign-in with multiple accounts to Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Reader, Google Sites and Google Code without having to sign-out of an account.

This feature has now been rolled out to users in phases and can be used to access multiple Google accounts. If you have not yet enable Google Multi Sign-in Feature, here are some simple steps for enabling the Google Multi Sign-in feature.

Step 1: Go to your Google Accounts Manage page (clicking on the link will take you there)

Step 2: Click on the Edit link next to Multiple sign-in listed under Personal Settings. If you do not see the link it will be rolled out to your account shortly.

Step 3: On the Edit page, select the radio button next to "On – Use multiple Google Accounts in the same web browser." and then make selections from the checkboxes below after you have read the details. After you have done that, just click the "Save" button.

That’s it, you will now be able to check emails, calendar, docs and more from multi-account using a drop down provided at the top of the screen. If you want to add another account, just click on the down arrow key and click on the link which says Sign in to another account and then provide your login credentials to it.

If you want to disable the multiple account sign-in in Google, just follow the same instructions. However, in Step 2 click the Radio button next to "Off – Use on Google Account at a time"

This is definitely one of the most useful features I have seen with Google or any other service because it takes out the hassle of managing and maintaining several different accounts.
