How to secure your network from Trojans

A Trojan, sometimes referred to as a Trojan horse, is non-self-replicating malware that appears to perform a desirable function for the user but instead facilitates unauthorized access to the user's computer system.

Is trojan virus Dangerous?
The short answer is yes, and the long answer is sometimes No, because there are near a thousand different trojan horse viruses and they all will most likely alter your computer in some way or another.

Working of Trojans!

Types of Trojans:

1.Remote Access Trojans

2.Password Sending Trojans

3.Keyloggers

4.Destructive Trojans

5.Denial of Service (DoS) Attack Trojans

6.Proxy/Wingate Trojans

7.FTP Trojans

8.Software Detection Killers

How to Get Rid of Trojans:
Here are some practical tips to avoid getting infected (again). For more general security information, please see our main security help page.
  1. NEVER download blindly from people or sites which you aren't 100% sure about. In other words, as the old saying goes, don't accept candy from strangers. If you do a lot of file downloading, it's often just a matter of time before you fall victim to a trojan.
  2. Even if the file comes from a friend, you still must be sure what the file is before opening it, because many trojans will automatically try to spread themselves to friends in an email address book or on an IRC channel. There is seldom reason for a friend to send you a file that you didn't ask for. When in doubt, ask them first, and scan the attachment with a fully updated anti-virus program.
  3. Beware of hidden file extensions! Windows by default hides the last extension of a file, so that innocuous-looking "susie.jpg" might really be "susie.jpg.exe" - an executable trojan! To reduce the chances of being tricked, unhide those pesky extensions.
  4. NEVER use features in your programs that automatically get or preview files. Those features may seem convenient, but they let anybody send you anything which is extremely reckless. For example, never turn on "auto DCC get" in mIRC, instead ALWAYS screen every single file you get manually. Likewise, disable the preview mode in Outlook and other email programs.
  5. Never blindly type commands that others tell you to type, or go to web addresses mentioned by strangers, or run pre-fabricated programs or scripts (not even popular ones). If you do so, you are potentially trusting a stranger with control over your computer, which can lead to trojan infection or other serious harm.
  6. Don't be lulled into a false sense of security just because you run anti-virus programs. Those do not protect perfectly against many viruses and trojans, even when fully up to date. Anti-virus programs should not be your front line of security, but instead they serve as a backup in case something sneaks onto your computer.
  7. Finally, don't download an executable program just to "check it out" - if it's a trojan, the first time you run it, you're already infected!

A Woman Finds Her Kidnapped Kids Via Facebook

A woman from south California, whose kids were kidnapped 15 years ago by her husband, has finally tracked her kids via Facebook.
Faustino Utrera, the father of two kids is put behind bars by the district police and the kids are now with their mother.
According to a report from KCCI, Faustino vanished with the two kids – a small boy and a baby girl on 1995. The kids were 2 and 3 years old respectively and they barely knew whats happening. The mother reported the issue to the local police but nothing happened for 15 years.
The mother searched everywhere for her kids but sadly she never got any clue where her kids were taken by his husband, Faustino.
Meanwhile, social networking emerged as a powerful way of communication and finding your old friends. The mother thought she should try Facebook, thus searched for her daughters profile and hit “Find”.
That’s it, she found her daughter’s profile, added her as a friend and started chatting and exchanging messages. After some days, the mother sent the teenager a family photo but this didn’t worked. “I am not interested in a relationship. I have a happy life, leave me alone”, said the daughter.
This was quite normal, because the girl was never attached with her mom and why should she believe in a strangers words?
Out of confusion, the girl deleted her Facebook profile. The mother contacted the police and investigating authorities, they tracked the Facebook profile and eventually found the family in Orlando, Fla
Faustino Utrera, the father was charged for kidnaping his own kids and taken under custody.
“There is no relationship there,” said Carrie Hoeppner of the Florida Department of Children & Families. “You don’t have that immediate joyful reunification. If in fact that is what will progress, it will take time. These children will have to build a relationship, and that is something that will not happen overnight.”

Totally depressed?? I am sorry to say, but this is true. There is no such email hacking software. So stop searching for such email hacking software. Stop fooling yourself. Just use your sense guys. If there exists such a software, will there be any security on web. And all expert engineers at Google, Yahoo and other services are not mad. What about Facebook password Hacking services?

Many sites on the internet claim to sell softwares/programs to hack email passwords. I know most of you are aware of this. These sites also boost that their software can hack email passwords with in minutes. Some sites also claim that they can hack any one’s password for money (say $100 or 200$). Never believe these sites. Pakistan Unblocks Facebook After One Day of Bangladesh Blocking it

It was just yesterday that Bangladesh blocked Facebook following Pakistan’s move, which came a few weeks ago. This was followed by a couple of arrests and anti-Facebook protests demanding the site be blocked in Bangladesh.

Today, Pakistan has unblocked Facebook and it is accessible all throughout Pakistan once again. There are two things that arise from here.

Firstly, Facebook has promised Pakistan and the world that no religiously offensive material will be found accessible from Pakistan on Facebook anymore. Now, to what extent can people really trust Facebook after it took it’s user’s privacy on a roller coaster ride. Seriously speaking, for a website which does not care about its users worldwide, I do not see it holding its end of the deal for only a section of its users. Sooner or later some controversial content is going to creep into Facebook again and it will have some technical jargons to throw at us as the reason for the mishap.

Secondly, in the wake of this situation, a new version of Facebook for Muslims worldwide, Millat Facebook was created which gained popularity. Though, Millat Facebook seriously lacks the features of Facebook and its user’s base. Now that Facebook has made amendments, Muslims worldwide have options to use either Millat Facebook or stick to Facebook itself.

This can either prove as a heavy loss for Facebook or a total failure for Millat Facebook. Only time will tell which of these websites appeals more to Muslims. Facebook sure has a lesson to learn from this and needs to bring in more checks on what is going up on its pages and how it is being served in different parts of the world.
